Noctrium Privacy Policy

Effective 2 November 2026 · Covers the Noctrium game on every platform (Android package com.jaredduval.noctrium, desktop and console builds), its online services, and research playtests run by the developer.

Noctrium is a strategy game developed by Jared Duval (“we”). This policy explains what the game collects, why, who sees it, how long it is kept, and the choices you have. It is written to cover the game as it grows, so some sections describe features that are not yet in the build you have. The box below says what applies to the current version.

What the current build does (version 0.1, internal testing). The game has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no store. It writes nothing to persistent storage. It uses the network only if you deliberately join a multiplayer match by entering a relay address, and then sends only game commands, a seat number and a room name. Nothing is sent to us. If you take part in a playtest, the research section below applies and you will be asked for consent separately before anything is recorded.

2. Game telemetry

When online features are available the game sends events describing what happened in play. They are named by domain and action and carry the build version, the balance version, a match identifier where relevant, and a pseudonymous player identifier. The families of events are:

Telemetry records what happened in the game. It does not record voice, text, contact lists, precise location, or device identifiers beyond what the platform requires. Region is kept coarse. Accessibility settings can imply a disability, so they are reported only as aggregate counts and are never stored against a player identifier.

Operational versus optional. Telemetry needed to run the service (matchmaking, anti-cheat, crash reports, service health) is collected on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a working game, and is disclosed here. Analytics beyond that, and any store analytics, follow the consent rules of your jurisdiction: where consent is required the game asks for it with a clear in-client control, and declining carries no penalty.

3. Replays

Every match leaves a compact replay: the commands each player issued, tick by tick. Online matches upload their replay to our servers so that friends can spectate, players can review their games, disputes about results can be checked, and balance can be measured by replaying old matches with new instrumentation. A replay contains display names and the pseudonymous identifiers of the players in it, and nothing else about them. Single-player and local matches are stored only on your device unless you choose to share them.

4. Accounts, profiles and social features

When online play launches, Noctrium will use a cross-platform identity linked to your platform account (for example Google Play, Steam, Xbox or PlayStation). We receive a display name and a platform user identifier from that platform, and we store your ranked rating per faction, match history with replays, mastery progress and cosmetic items. We do not receive your platform password, payment details or contact list. Profiles can be set to public, friends-only or private. Friends lists, parties and presence go through the platform's own services and ours.

Communications. Voice and text exist only among people who chose to play together: parties, custom lobbies and teams sharing a faction. Strangers in a match can only exchange a fixed set of quick-chat phrases and pings. Voice is not recorded or stored by us. Text in lobbies and parties may be retained briefly so that a report can be reviewed. Speech-to-text and text-to-speech, when used, are processed by the platform or a provider named in the client at the time.

Reports. A report you file attaches the replay and the moment you marked. We keep reports, and the outcome, for as long as needed to enforce the rules and to handle appeals.

5. Purchases

If cosmetics are sold, purchases are made through your platform's store, which handles payment under its own privacy policy. We receive confirmation of what you bought so that we can deliver it, and keep that record for as long as you own the item and as long as tax law requires. There are no randomized paid items.

6. Playtest research

We study how people play Noctrium using established games user research methods. You take part only by invitation and only after reading and agreeing to a consent form for that specific study, which will state exactly what is recorded in that session. This section lists everything a study might involve so you know what to expect.

What a study may collect

How research data is handled

7. What we never do

8. Who else sees data

We use service providers to host the game's servers, relay traffic, store replays and telemetry, run analytics and receive crash reports. They process data only on our instructions. The platform you play on (Google, Valve, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) processes your platform account, purchases and native social features under its own policy. We disclose data when the law requires it, or to protect players and the service from abuse. If the project is ever transferred to another developer, this policy continues to apply to data collected under it.

Servers may be located outside your country. Where data leaves the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom we rely on approved transfer mechanisms such as standard contractual clauses.

9. How long we keep data

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interest, and to withdraw consent at any time. Under the EU and UK GDPR, the California CCPA and comparable laws we honor these requests within the required time. Deleting an account removes the link between you and your matches; replays shared with other players are kept with your name removed, because they are also the other players' matches. You may complain to your local data protection authority. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising their rights.

To make a request, email the address below from the account you want it applied to, or give us the participant code from your consent form.

11. Children

Noctrium is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Platform age and parental controls are respected, including communication restrictions. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections, stored with access limited to those who need it, and relay-only networking means other players never see your network address. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

13. Changes

We will update this policy before a version of the game begins collecting anything new, change the effective date, and announce material changes in the client and in patch notes. Prior versions are available on request.
